The European Parliament approved the European Union's first-ever Soil Monitoring Law, a landmark directive aimed at contributing to the efforts towards the restoration of soil health across Europe by 2050. This new directive provides a critical framework that strongly supports the mission and activities of SOILL and the Mission Soil network of Living Labs.

Since May 2025, SOILL-Startup partners have connected communities across Europe through a series of engagement events on a set of topics revolving around soil health, to support applicants in preparing competitive proposals for the 2025 Mission Soil topics on Living Labs.

SOILL-Startup is gathering feedback from applicants on their experiences applying to the Living Lab topics in the EU Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe”.

The SOILSCAPE Open Call aims at integrating arts and creative practices into scientific approaches, with the aim of elevating public understanding and appreciation of soil. To do so, a total of €2 million has been allocated to fund sub-projects through a Financial Support to Third Parties (FSTP) scheme, offering two distinct categories of support for applicants: SOILSCAPE FSTP and Soil Orchestra FSTP.

SOILL-Startup organised a series of engagement events in May and June 2025 to support prospective applicants by offering practical guidance on funding opportunities and proposal development for the 2025 Mission Soil topics.

This three-part series, taking place in June 2025, is tailored to help applicants navigate the Mission’s requirements and funding opportunities.

On 4 June 2025, the European Parliament's Environment Committee voted on the provisional agreement reached between the Council and Parliament on the directive establishing a framework for monitoring soil health in Europe.

The SOILL Hub is a core output of SOILL-Startup, the Horizon Europe project supporting the development of the network of 100 Soil Health Living Labs and Lighthouses of the Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe” through coordination, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement. The Hub will evolve continuously to meet user needs and integrate with other platforms of the Mission Soil ecosystem.

The European Commission has officially launched two new Mission Soil topics focused on Living Labs as part of the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2025.
